Village of Lisbon
About Lisbon
The village of Lisbon is the county seat of Columbiana County, and is centrally located with easy access to several different communities in the north and southern areas of the county via State Routes 11, 164, and 45.
When the village was first founded shortly after 1800, it was named New Lisbon. By 1803, New Lisbon became today what is known as Lisbon. The village was officially incorporated on February 7, 1825. With its location on Beaver Creek, this led to a diverse range of industries from mills to cement works.
Due to its county seat status, there are numerous government functions that occur in the village on a day-to-day basis. This adds to the vitality in downtown Lisbon that is centered on a historic square with the county’s notable courthouse as the focus.
The County newspaper, the Morning Journal, also maintains its operations in the village limits along with the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center. With a population of 2,800, Lisbon has that small village feel that makes it a comfortable place to live or work. Within the village there are numerous attractions for everyone including the Columbiana County Fairgrounds, the Sadie VanFossen public swimming pool, Pondi’s and the Steel Trolley Diner. Recreational opportunities are abundant in Lisbon with Willow Grove Park and the Little Beaver Creek Trail which is a 10-mile greenway trail between the villages of Lisbon and Leetonia. Lisbon plays integral part in how Columbiana County functions, and even with a small population, the village packs a big punch.
