Village of Wellsville
About Wellsville
Wellsville is home to 3,500 residents and is situated on the northern banks of the Ohio River. The village was established in 1848, but well before then Wellsville was a center for commerce and played roles in the steamboat and ceramic industries. The river has, and continues to this day of playing an important part in how the village operates.
Located just five miles to the west of East Liverpool, Wellsville has easy access to major cities thanks in large part to the road network that bypasses the village. With State Route 7 heading south to Steubenville with access to Interstate 70, and Route 30 with direct access to the Pittsburgh International Airport.
The Ohio River has also made Wellsville an important point in the shipment of goods on the nation’s river ways. The Wellsville Intermodal Park assists in the movement of goods from the river to the railways.
Other major industrial players in Wellsville include: The Stevenson Manufacturing Company, one of Marathon Petroleum’s asphalt terminals, and the Wellsville Terminals Company.
Wellsville is relatively small in land area with the majority of the village limits set in a flat expanse along the river. This has led to the town being developed in between the river and State Route 7 with a fairly dense street grid. The village is also well known for their murals throughout the town painted on floodwalls depicting Wellsville’s history. There is no denying the Ohio River has been beneficial to Wellsville, and will continue to do so well into the future.
